URGENT Amnesty Alert!

Grassfire received word yesterday that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is committed to spending the next two weeks trying to fix America’s illegal immigration problem. According to an email from McConnell’s office, the Senate convened at 3:00 p.m. ET yesterday afternoon to “resume consideration of the motion to proceed to H.R.2579, the vehicle for Immigration.”

You might think that’s a good thing, right? Well, think again.

H.R.2579, the “Broader Options for Americans Act,” is a bill passed by the House of Representatives last June. It “amends the Internal Revenue Code to allow the premium assistance tax credit to be used for unsubsidized COBRA continuation health coverage.” It has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with IMMIGRATION!

In the coming days, the Senate will take up that House bill, remove all of the language in it, and turn it into their own immigration legislation. Then, H.R.2579 becomes the Senate immigration bill that, if passed, can be sent back to the “Lower Chamber” for a vote.

Surprisingly, this “empty-bill rule” is nothing new on Capitol Hill. It’s a bit of a parliamentary trick that’s gone on for years. It allows the Senate to create legislation of their own that looks like it started in the House, which controls America’s “purse strings” — at least they’re supposed to.

In an article published yesterday, Breitbart declared: “GOP Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has devised an immigration debate this week which can help an alliance of Democrats and roughly 15 business-first Republican Senators push an amnesty through the Senate while blocking President Donald Trump’s pro-American reforms. … But McConnell’s empty-bill rules means that many Senators can first fake a vote for Trump’s plan — and then swiftly push through a pro-business, cheap-labor amnesty.”

This is the start of what could be a huge push for amnesty — instead of a fight to secure our borders, protect Americans and stop illegal immigration! <#first_name#>, as a Grassfire team member who has gone on record opposing amnesty, you can increase your impact by instantly faxing your personalized message to your Senators and other strategic Senate targets.

Grassfire has identified key GOP Senators involved in immigration negotiations with President Trump. Their vote could be the difference between amnesty and a responsible, secure solution. Expand your impact by also faxing Democrats central to any amnesty push, or instantly send an anti-illegal-immigration message to the entire U.S. Senate!

The Grassfire staff is ALARMED because, compared to previous amnesty proposals in Congress, we’re only seeing about 10 percent of the grassroots pushback and outrage. But this time, the danger is actually greater because Establishment RINOs, like McConnell and others, are not demonstrating any significant, principled opposition to amnesty.

That means we need friends like you, who already took a stand, to go the EXTRA MILE! Grassfire has made it possible for signers of the NO DEAL ON AMNESTY petition to fax Congress IMMEDIATELY and flood them with messages from conservative Americans who will not accept a bad deal on amnesty. Click here to fax now.

Thank you, in advance, for taking additional action!
